Welcome to my site

Here I detail, step by step, my entire DIY Home Extension project from designing, CAD drawing, submitting plans, gaining Building Control approval and building the extension, brick by brick with my own hands.

Here is quick proposed before and after so you know what this project is about.  Following some internal alterations, the single storey extension will come down. I will then build the new extension as shown (That said, this was my initial proposal - things did change a little as the project progressed but all is explained through the Project Diary)

The Lowdown on Sketchup

Two dimensional plans are great for showing layout; the lounge leads to the hall; the bedroom has two windows etc. Visualising three dimensional concepts of space, volume and proportion from two dimensional plans, however, demands a little mental gymnastics of the reader.

With the recent introduction of Google Sketchup software, ‘virtually’ building your house on your PC first may well be the answer.

How's your Brickwork?

I tried out the bricky, a nifty little tool to help lay even mortar beds, and wrote my review.

If you are of a similar age to me you will have grown up with K-tel and Ronco products  you may be, like me, sceptical about such products and wonder if The Bricky Tool is just another of these - a kind of Brick-O-Matic that by rights should also offer to de-fluff your cardigan and remove scratces from your LP's.
