Create Your Own Website

Create Your Own Website - Hosting

Thank you for registering your interest in my step by step website project. If there is sufficient interest I will create a new website. I will keep you updated.

However, as you are interested in starting your own website or blog (with or without my help) you can get started now.

The first step is to get yourself a domain name and somewhere to host your site. So I would recommend that you have a think about, and then bag yourself your chosen domain name and hosting before it's gone. Would you like to be www.purpleknickers.co.uk  or www.thebestextensionever.com Well if you don't' grab it someone else will.

I have bought many domain names and used many different web hosts. I now exclusively use ipage. It is clean, simple and cheap. Many hosting companies seem cheap but then you find you need to pay more again for email forwarding, redirects, extra bandwidth or extra disk space etc. For around £40 with ipage (varies slightly depending on the current offer) you will secure your chosen name and have unlimited hosting space for a whole year (that's about £3 a month!) - which you can then renew or not as you please. It is also very user friendly.

In the spirit of fairness, I acknowledge that their are plenty of other hosting companies, and, I am sure, plenty of happy customers. However, I genuinely say that ipage is the best I have used and happily recommend it. And as it is the host I use, any demonstrations I offer in future tutorials will be based on the ipage host - if you use a different host then you may need to tweak my instructinos to suit.

Click on either ipage banner, below or on the right, to go check out their current offers and sign up. (Don't be put off that prices are in $, as you step through registration it offers you the £ price). On their site, simply type in the domain name you fancy  (My domain name is www.diyhomeextension.co.uk) and see if what you want is available (If not, use your imagination to come up with a name that suits). When you find one you like, sign up.

NOTE: Unless you have specific needs, my recommendaton is that you will only need the basic package. During sign up you may be offered 'extras' just untick the boxes and accept the basic package, I suggest - that's all I have.
